Polymers in healthcare : new trends and innovations to improve drug delivery and develop cutting-edge medical devices
Polymers find various applications in healthcare, from drug delivery to medical devices. They can be used in formulations (oral, nasal, intravenous, …) to target organs or for controlled release. For example, formulations using polymers such as polylactide-co-glycolide acid (PLGA) are used for the extended release of drugs. Another example is mRNA delivery systems, for which polymers can be developed as an alternative to lipids to overcome current limitations. There is also an emerging trend on hybrid active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) covalently incorporating polymers, such as polymer drug conjugates, acting as prodrugs for controlled release or targeted release. For medical devices, polymers are key components of biocompatible materials, either for durable applications or transient ones (requiring biodegradable polymers).
Innovations in this dynamic field are supported by new polymer structures enabling to match target properties.
Watch our webinar where we present innovations in polymers. We are pleased to be presenting together with our partners and customers:
- Dr Ruxandra Gref from CNRS and Université Paris Saclay will present her work on the development of a formulation based on polymers (PLGA) for more efficient lung delivery of antivirals.
- Prof. Ying Chau, Co-Founder and CSO of Pleryon Therapeutics, one of our customers for polymers development, will present how polymer-based therapeutics can be developed for diverse areas such as ophthalmology, orthopedics, and tissue regeneration.
During this webinar you will learn:
- How to design a polymer-based formulation for efficient delivery of an API to target organs with 2 case studies.
- Main considerations to choose a polymer depending on its application
- Key trends on polymer-based therapeutic innovations
